HMRC update Advisory Fuel rates

HMRC update Advisory Fuel rates

HMRC has update it’s Advisory Fuel Rates information. The new rates apply from 1 June 2013, although HMRC allow the current rates, i.e. those applying up to 31 May 2013, to be used until 30 June 2013.

Why is this information useful?

The advisory fuel rates can be used to calculate the amount of VAT a business can claim from HMRC based on the business miles travelled.

There are different rates for each type of fuel, and different engine sizes for Diesel compared to Petrol or LPG fuelled cars. If you have a hybrid car you need to use the rate for the relevant engine size and fuel in the tables below:

Engine size Petrol LPG
1400cc or less 15p 10p
1401cc to 2000cc 17p 12p
Over 2000cc 25p 18p
Engine size Diesel
1600cc or less 12p
1601cc to 2000cc 14p
Over 2000cc 18p
